The story

The dolphin fish at Tooradin was not made for Tooradin. It was made for the 2006 Melbourne Commonwealth Games.
That origin puts it in a small and interesting category: objects built as temporary event decoration that found permanent homes afterwards. A large sculpture commissioned for a two-week international sporting event has to go somewhere when the event ends, and the ones that survive tend to end up in towns with a specific claim on the subject. Tooradin has one – it sits on Western Port, and the settlement grew up around fishing and the inlet.

WHAT TO EXPECT
A 2025 Victorian Fisheries Authority guide identifies the Dolphin fish as a current Tooradin attraction and links it to the 2006 Commonwealth Games. Recent local visitor material places it on the western shore of Sawtells Inlet near the Tooradin Hotel.
ACCESS
The Big Dolphinfish is beside Sawtells Inlet near the pedestrian footbridge in Tooradin. The sculpture itself is independently mapped at approximately -38.21270, 145.37838. Nearby parking exists, but PBT does not yet have a sufficiently verified arrival coordinate, so direct navigation is withheld pending a dedicated parking/approach check.
