"Big Bear" is a 15-foot-tall sculpture of a grizzly bear built from recycled/rusted steel with glass eyes, created by Santa Fe, New Mexico artist Don Kennell and featured at the Coachella music festival starting in 2015. Goldenvoice (the festival's producer) loaned the sculpture to the City of Coachella, and it was permanently installed at Shady Lane Park in September 2017, including a swing fashioned after the California state flag (whose bear inspired the sculpture). City officials described it as a visual anchor for Coachella's growing arts corridor.
