FIELD GUIDE
The story
Michael McEvoy built a Big Banana in Mackay in the late 1980s, then went west and tried the same thing at Carnarvon. This is that banana.
The Mackay account is blunt about the outcome – the Carnarvon venture never came off in the way he hoped – but the fibreglass banana itself survives on Robinson Street, near the caravan park, and current regional tourism material still directs visitors to it. It has been relocated and reoriented during its life, which is the ordinary experience of an object that has outlived several arrangements.

WHAT TO EXPECT
Current regional tourism material still directs visitors to Carnarvon’s Big Banana, and current mapping identifies the surviving sculpture beside Robinson Street near Carnarvon Caravan Park. The object has been relocated and reoriented during its life.
ACCESS
The sculpture is roadside and historically has had limited stopping space. Do not treat the landmark pin itself as a parking instruction; a preferred lawful photo stop still needs independent verification.
