The story

A rusted pickup loaded with a humongous yellow catfish is one of the sculptures in the Hanna Springs Sculpture Garden in Lampasas, Texas. Texas Parks & Wildlife magazine named it Joe Barrington’s Been Fish’en in March 2023, and the Lampasas Association for the Arts lists it in the garden’s permanent sculpture collection. Chet Garner of Texas Co-op Power, writing in 2022, described an old rusty truck laden with a giant metal catfish stretching from the windshield to beyond the tailgate, and said he had never seen anything like it in a small town.
The garden fills Campbell Park, which the City of Lampasas owns and which was built around Hanna Springs. The city says it was dedicated on 8 July 2005, an idea inspired by local artist Nancy Gray, and that three artists carved its foundation pieces on site that September. The association now lists 25 permanent sculptures, with three to six more brought in each year for temporary display. A concrete walkway links the works, according to Texas Parks & Wildlife.
