FIELD GUIDE

The story

Two stainless-steel arms reach across the Big Sioux River in downtown Sioux Falls and stop short of meeting, and the gap is the point.
SculptureWalk Sioux Falls says the Arc of Dreams, nearly the length of a football field and spanning the river between 6th and 8th streets, leaves a gap at its centre that represents the leap of faith dreamers take to see their dreams come true. It was created by South Dakota Artist Laureate Dale Lamphere, and the nonprofit calls it the signature piece of art for the city. SculptureWalk, which owns and maintains it, says the sculpture is privately funded and was built with donations from more than 700 families, individuals and businesses.
