FIELD GUIDE

The story

They are the little figures from a pedestrian crossing sign, taken off the sign and stood up at the corner.
Matthew Calvert made A Short Walk in 2011, at the junction of Hindmarsh Drive and Brierly Street, as a landmark for the main turn into the Weston Creek Centre. The group is three silhouettes – a big sister, a little brother and a little sister – derived directly from the crossing-sign figure, and artsACT describes the grouping as suggesting friendship, family and community.
