FIELD GUIDE

The story

In late November 2018 Roswell's Main Street gained a 22-foot green alien holding a sign above its head. KRQE reported that it was installed on a Tuesday morning outside a new Dunkin' and Baskin-Robbins, close to the flying-saucer McDonald's and not far from the International UFO Museum. KRQE described the figure as styrofoam, weighing about 2,000 pounds. The sign was custom made in South Dakota, and the owners told KRQE they paid more than $35,000 for the alien, after about a year of planning and eight weeks of fabrication. Coast to Coast AM, citing the company, gave four weeks of construction and the same cost.
A company representative told KRQE, 'We wanted to create a landmark, something that will stay here forever.' Roadside America describes the build as steel-reinforced styrofoam under a hard polyurethane shell, and a 2020 Roadside America visitor tip says a giant face mask was fitted to the alien in October 2020. KRQE reported that the owners planned a contest to name the alien.
